There was plenty if discussion on the news networks today. Everyone kept saying it was a malfunction of the computer program. A couple of my friends had no idea it happened, but then again, they rarely watch the news and get their updates off of their Facebook feed. Other friends wondered if it was something else then a software glitch.
The comments on the various articles certainly brought out the conspiracy theorists! Combined with the US Airlines and Wall Street Journal outages, and Anonymous' tweet the day before, I can certainly see the temptation to suspect sinister doings afoot. (Our supervisory office's email ess down all day, too, which made it all a little close to home!)
All reports are that the events are unrelated, of course, but then you'd think they'd say that regardless until they figured things out... The fact that other markets were unaffected tends to make it seem less like an attack, though.
I was at least relieved to learn that it was an unexpected halt, and not one of the "safety net" halts that are automatically instituted when the market goes into a free fall!
