    Agreed. We lock up way too many people for non-violent offenses and spend billions doing it.

    If you get caught with some modest amount of pot you should have a steep fine, enough to be somewhat of a deterrent. And the fine should elevate for subsequent repeat offenses.

    The legal focus should be on the suppliers, growers, and sellers. Attack the supply chain, not the users.

      Exactly. Since, unlike alcohol, marijuana stays in your system for a long time, there's no way to prove if someone is under the influence at any given time. They may test positive even if they haven't used for a couple of weeks. So even if marijuana is legalized, employers are still going to have to test for it and still treat a positive test as grounds for discipline or dismissal.

        TWHAB is basically a podcast that Mel runs that is geared toward relative laypeople... his other ER doc-directed podcast (EMRAP) is probably *the* leading podcast for ER physicians.
