I live in Florida and have some family in that New York area. I had no problems joining. I actually had less hassle joining this CU than GTE in Florida. If anyone would like to participate, let me know.

Was it difficult to join? I really want to join now when they have 5.25%. The only problem is that I don't have any family in any of the counties. I might have a friends friend or something (if I try hard) that lives up there... do they do any background check to confirm that you are in family?

They ask for the current phone number and address of your family member. So a check is done directly with the relative. It has something to do with the CU charter.
