  • 7.5% saving return for 1 year

I keep getting these emails from optionshouse, the broker where I do my trading. They want me to refer friends, but I don't have any friends who bother saving money. For each friend you refer who sets up a $1000 account with them for 6 months you get $150. The friend gets 100 free trades.

So technically two people could go in on this...one person create an account with $1000, then refer a friend who creates an account with $1000 and the two of you split the $150, giving you $75 each, or a 7.5% one year return. Plus you would get 100 free trades each.

Just tossing it out there as an idea, not trying to get referrals myself. I do like optionshouse for the cheap stock and option trades.

I am 65 and strongly advise you to never refer your friends to anything pertaining to their money in any shape or form. Friends are friends and not business partners. The brokers are simply drumming up business and you should know that by now.

Good call. I need reminding myself of this as well although KTP may not have been trying to recruit anyone, given the benefit of the doubt. I remember once when I was a young adult and contemplated selling Kirby vacuum cleaners my mom wisely told me not to solicit any of the relatives. That was my first thought to hit up all the relatives. As I reflect back I'm so glad my mom astutely admonished me not to ask any of the relatives to buy vacuum cleaners from me. On a side note after one week of not selling a single vacuum cleaner I had quit that gig and settled on a more traditional job waiting tables. Sales was never in my genetic make up.

No, I was not trying to recruit anyone. I just see people that jump through hoops for a 5% bank account and thought a 7.5% or 15% guaranteed return might interest someone other pairs of people.
