  • Investing Timeframe over a year

This might be a silly question

If I have 500 USD a month to invest
I know the goal is to have several places to put it, ETA, Roth, Stock, Bond Etc

    So my question
    1. Put january 500$ into ETA, Then Feb put 500$ into Stock, Mar put 500$ Into Bond etc etc,
invest into one topic at a time the full amount

    2. jan put 100$ stock, 100$ bond, 100$ Roth
    diversify each month's money

    3. Save Jan, Feb March and invest $1,500 at once and do that 4x a year...

I see advantages and disadvantages or logic to each. But i figured there is a common practice for simple reasons I have not stumbled across

I think you need to look at your goals and intentions for this money. Is it all for retirement? Is some of it to build an emergency fund? Is any of it money that you'll need short-term (within 5 years)?

If it is all retirement money, the limit for your Roth is $5,500 this year (if you are under 50). That would mean 11 months of $500/month going to the Roth.

If it isn't all for retirement, then it depends on the goals to determine how you would divide it up. Give us more info and we can give a better answer.

You seem to be confused about some things - you're mixing accounts with asset types here.

First thing to do is educate yourself. Look at the "start-up kits" on this page:
