Well he was the gate keeper in terms of whether a product went into production or not. Unless you've heard otherwise.

Actually I know several people who work there...went to one guys wedding who has about 300 people working for him (lucky bastard, we used to work side by side at a different company). They are working on so many secret projects it is hard for the common outsider to understand. The security is such that even family members are not allowed into the buildings (some exception for little kids and pets, if the pets are not likely to be spies).

With all of that going on, I have to doubt that we really know anything about future products and who is/was behind them.

Good stuff. Thanks for that insight. I try to dig into it because what is disseminated in the media is hardly the whole truth, so it's interesting to hear a (somewhat) insider perspective.

Not politicizing this thread but check out what Tim Cook's compensation was in 2011. Astounding!

Have any of your fundamentals changed in your assessment of the business or are you just fretting on short term fluctuations? How long of an investment horizon do you have?

Also, as AAPL investors, what do you feel about Jobs' last dying wish to battle Samsung to the bitter end and not settle the patent infringement case? It's an interesting question, because it could cost a lot of money to fight it in court but at the same time if you don't then Samsung and their ilk will just continue to rip off Apple's innovations in the future.

Not sure if all of you follow the case. Originally, a judge awarded $1B to Apple but recently set aside that judgement because she discovered that juror's did not follow her instructions to a T when calculating the damages/award.

Well Apple is still in the doghouse but Microsoft is steaming ahead.

I checked my 50 call spread and it is still growing...now at a $8000 profit.

Kind of funny that I am making money on Microsoft and losing money on Apple...who would have guessed that last year?

I closed the microsoft spread early today since Softie was trading over $32. I got $3.90 per spread instead of the maximum $4, which means I left $0.10 on the table.

I did a risk assessment and $0.10/$3.90 is only 2.6%....taking a risk of losing 100% for a 2.6% additional return was not worth tying up the money for another few months.

All in all I made a bit over $14,500 on these microsoft trades, which makes up for my current losses in Apple and then some. I am still holding onto my Apple shares and hope for some new products soon.

Nice trade and an even nicer move by not possibly blowing it waiting for that last $0.10

At one time I owned 10 shares... I sold at $185 (SMDH). I then watched the stock go up... viral is more like it. Though I pulled about $500 profit from the sale (Of which I am happy with), I lost out on a few THOUSAND by not doing the research and holding out.

No worries, the money went to a good cause.

Sales of older iPhones, iPads banned as agency says Apple infringed Samsung patent

A U.S. trade agency on Tuesday banned the sale of several iPhone and iPad models for infringing a Samsung patent, dealing a high-profile setback to Apple’s crusade against copycats.

If upheld, the ruling would show that at least some of Apple’s iconic technology duplicated that of its primary competitor in the mobile-device market, an embarrassment for a company that has held itself up as the source of Silicon Valley’s most groundbreaking innovations. Samsung, once a bit player in the cellphone market, now sells more smartphones than Apple around the world.
I'm not Apple bashing. I own an iPhone and own a mac at home and at work.

I guess all it takes is a bit of waiting.

I am now positive by about $13,000 on my Apple stock. Thank you fanboys!

Nothing wrong with being a Boglehead....I browse that site too. I keep all of our retirement accounts in index funds. I play around a bit with $50K in individual stocks...well, it is $100K now

I have been seriously thinking about using it to pay off the house as I am too busy with other stuff (building a custom RV from scratch) to follow the market closely.
