  • What is the best Schwab Index Fund?

I am about to purchase a Index fund, choosing Schwab because the minimum investment is just $100.
I am going to purchase a couple which should I take a look at? or should I put all my investment into one fund?
This will be my first investment btw =)

I think an S&P 500 Index fund is a good place to start. Either that or a total stock market index.

That depends a great deal on the purpose of your investment.

How would you define the 'best' fund?
What are your goals for the investment?

Your question is like asking, "what's the best workout?"

That depends a great deal on the purpose of your workout.

The best one is in my checking account; no minimums.

But with investing, there is this thing called due diligence. Don't make an investment unless you can explain to your friends in layman's terms why it is a good one.

I you don't want to do your own due diligence, pay someone to do it for you. But since you are worried about minimums I assume this is not an option. I would advise you to go over to investopedia.com with a cup of coffee and start reading!

SNXFX, Schwab 1000 fund. I think they also have a Total Market fund, which is a fund of their other funds.

If your account is with Schwab, you could buy their ETF's instead. Minimum purchase there would be the actual cost of the ETF. For S&P 500 (SCHB), that's about $30. And no commissions at Schwab for their ETF's. That's a decent deal.
