  • Do I have to report Dividends?

I have a Tradeking account and I get Dividends from the stocks that I hold. Once I get the dividends to withdraw. I send them to my Checking Account. Do I have to report this on my taxes?

I do get a 1099-B for selling the stock though but nothing for the dividends. Why is that?

Not unless you want an IRS Audit

Yes, you have to report them (at least here in Canada you do). You should get a form for your dividend earnings (up here it is a T5).

            not a tax expert, but

whatever company you're working with must issue you a 1099-DIV whether you're getting cash divs, or having them reinvested, if you're indeed getting dividends in a taxable account.. Just remember, they report it to the IRS under your soc sec number, and I believe unless it's under $10 (total of 1099DIV amount not $10 per stock per year) you most definitely have to report it. All of that said, I'm not a tax expert and would suggest you touching base with one to confirm what I said along with the specifics of your financial situation.

Keep in mind that you have to claim the dividend income - even if you don't withdraw it to your bank account.

All dividends earned in a brokerage account are taxable.
