  • Can you recommend any good books on basic investing?

Can anyone recommend some good books on investment, as in books that discuss investing for people just starting out with little base knowledge in this area? Or books on saving money through investment in things other than stocks such as CDs, etc.? I am new to investing, but would like to learn. Thanks. Hope no one else has posted a thread asking lately, but if they did, I have not yet seen it.

I would like to invest more some day, but would be starting out kind of from ground zero.

A few people have made threads asking this lately

My typical response is 'Intelligent Investor' by Ben Graham - but it does require that you have a general knowledge about investments.

The other thread recommends the 'Personal Finance for Dummies' series

For a true beginner, I'd even recommend going to half price books and getting a 3-4 year old personal finance textbook, or textbook on investments.

    The standard Personal Finance textbook:
Amazon.com: Personal Finance (9780073382326): Jack Kapoor, Les Dlabay, Robert J. Hughes: Books

Good syllabus for an investment course:
Oglethorpe University is Atlanta's premier liberal arts & sciences university with over 60 courses of study to choose from.

-recommends Amazon.com: Investments: Analysis and Management (9780471456667): Jones: Books

Though ironically enough, textbooks on investing do not make good investments! their value drops quickly! I got a 3 year old textbook for like $10. Brand new was $150-200.

I am new into the industry and still on the learning progress and I often learn many things from reading. Thanks for your recommendations, I'll be checking it out too..

For an easy to read book for investors, I reccomend "The wealthy Barber" by David Chilton. Also, "the only other Investing guide you will ever need" by Andrew Tobias. You should be able to find both of them at your library!
