  • Etrade account cause a credit pull?

Hello to everyone. I recently discovered this forum, and I have gotten a lot of great information already. I have a quick question. I opened an Etrade account last week, but have not funded it yet. I'm considering using ING's Sharebuilder instead.

My question is, do these companies pull your credit when you open an account? I have opened 2 credit cards in the last few months, and I'm afraid with the Etrade and ING (plus I am opening a Roth with Vanguard this week), it will be too much activity on my credit file and cause some sort of problem. Does anyone know if this is the case?

Thanks in advance, I look forward to building my financial future with the help of this forum!

I am not sure, but most probably there should be an inquiry on your credit report. I got an inquiry when I opened my trading account.

You will get a credit pull for almost anything you do. It has come to the point that credit pulls, although dropping your score slightly, will not really negatively affect you. Just because you get a credit pull for something should not discourage you from doing anything worth doing.

I recently did a lot: a new credit card for business expenses, my Roth IRA is up and running, a 529 plan for my nephew, a new apartment, and cable/internet for the apartment. All of these required a credit pull and my credit has not been hindered. My credit card I just got: I was instantly approved for 0% for a year, no questions asked. I'm not saying this to brag, but just to prove a point that your credit inquiries almost do nothing to hurt you if the pull is justified.

Thanks for the replies. I was just feeling hestitant for some reason to open the Sharebuilder account right after the Etrade account, but it probably won't be a big deal in the grand scheme of things. If anything it seems silly now to have given Etrade all of my info (SSN and such) when I won't even be using them. Oh well.
