  • NASDAQ Index fund?

I'm planning to exploit the conversion loophole to open a traditional IRA with $5,000, then convert it to a ROTH immediately. I have a long time horizon and favor passive investment, so I wanted to invest in a NASDAQ index fund.

Finding one has proven more difficult than I would imagine. Fidelity offers one, but it requires a $10,000 minimum. Is there any way to achieve what I want to do with just $5,000?

Hmm, I am not sure either.

If you don't mind ETFs, there is ONEQ. Just do a $5000 lump sum buy.

Alternatively, just let the money sit in something else or even money market fund until you have enough to buy FNCMX.

ETF is a good option, thanks, hadn't thought of that.

While I'm willing to put my 2009 IRA on the NASDAQ, I don't want to put a full $10,000 in it right now. My thinking has been to put by 2009 IRA in one type of index fund, and by 2010 in a completely unrelated index fund. So, finding another index ETF (aside from S&P, as I have that in a 401(k)) is my next job. Thanks.

We buy QQQQ as our Nasdaq index.

I 2nd, I mean 3rd, that QQQQ is an ETF based on the Nasdaq 100. No minimum either, just a "buy" transaction fee, which would be a nominal percentage of your $5K investment.
