  • 403B woes

I work for a school district and contribute to a 403B. Over a year ago, the feds required school districts to either figure out an investment plan and run it for employees (this is a very simplified explanation, I know) or hire a company to take care of the disbursements and stuff. My district hired a company so they wouldn't be liable and I can't blame them there. However, it seems that in August and September our contributions were somehow distributed to the wrong companies and the companies won't return them. The district legal team has stepped in and threatened these companies and they don't appear to be shaking in their boots. The company that was in charge of overseeing this seems to be dragging their feet, we received a letter right before break that the letter threatening these companies to return the money or else didn't go out unil the middle of December. I wonder if we will get the money returned and if the companies holding on to this money will be required to make up the interest we would have earned if it had been in the correct account.
