  • Jon Stewart & Jim Cramer face off

This is an interesting video on how wallstreet ripped off our 401k's.

    Any comments?

CNBC, MSNBC, and NBC all seem to be circling the wagons over this Cramer/Stewart dust up.

A TVNewser tipster tells us MSNBC producers were asked not to incorporate the Jim Cramer/Jon Stewart interview into their shows today. In fact, the only time it came up on MSNBC was during the White House briefing, when a member of the press corps asked Press Secretary Robert Gibbs if Pres. Obama watched. Gibbs wasn't sure if the president had, but Gibbs did. "I enjoyed it thoroughly," the Press Secretary said.

On Cramer's network, CNBC, the subject has only come up twice today, including when master marketer/CNBC personality Donny Deutsch brought it up briefly around 1pm on "Power Lunch." "I'm a huge Jon Stewart fan," said Deutsch, "He does what he does he does his job. But I'm also a huge Jim Cramer fan. He sticks up for the little guy, he cares, he puts his neck out, and I respect that. I respect both those guys."

Cramer appeared on his regular "Stop Trading" segment during "Street Signs." But the Daily Show did not come up. With anchor Erin Burnett in Washington, the discussion was about banking policy and the Federal Reserve, ending with Cramer saying, "Ben Bernanke's got the magic." (A far cry from Cramer's "Wake-Up" call to Bernanke in August '07.)

Insiders tell TVNewser Cramer will talk about Stewart tonight on "Mad Money" (6pmET & 11pmET).

How do these people like Cramer stay so popular when they miss the ball so many times? Is it similar to the fascination people have with horrible singers on American Idol or something?

You don't see the guy on talk shows all the time who was whistle blowing about the Maddof scam years before it collapsed, but he would seem to be a better financial guru to tout than Cramer.

Cramer's target audience leans toward sophisticated audiences (those who thinks they are better investors than most average Joe in America). It's was a bad move on his part to confront Jon on his own game. Cramer's looks stupid and got EXPOSED in his own game. It was definitely not one of his best.

I watched Cramer for a while and found him to be liberal. But lately he has critized Obama's economic policies.

I don't think it really has much to do with politics - it has more to do with pure, unadulterated greed.

I'd provide my own thoughts on the subject, but I wouldn't be able to say it any better than Poniewozik did in the most recent edition of Time.

I've not seen this yet, but I've seen the previous video excerpts where Jon Stewart lampoons Jim Cramer, and I admit I laughed.

Thing is, I like both TV personalities, and though I am not a devotee of Cramerica, I'll still watch him from time to time. Fast Money too. Pick out what's useful, dispense with the rest.

This is such an interesting trade-off.

Stewart's point is crystal clear; just watch the show and you'll know why he stands where he stands. He even touched on something that, if too many people heard it, would REALLY have them fuming on this messaage board IMHO (how insiders screwed over the "buy and hold" crowd).

Cramer's stance sounds tenuous, but I think it was because he was trying to be the lamb before the lion for CNBC. Having said that, he certainly hinted at his main point.

THIS IS ENTERTAINMENT. Everything on television (information, education, etc) is second to that. A host of a lampooning "news" show should understand that.

I think the lesson learned is: don't abruptly cancel an appearance on a show that features a person with a sharp tongue.

Cramer is an entertainer first, informative former wall-street toughguy second. He knows what he's talking about, as demonstrated by his former success with his hedge fund, but he has also made some demeaning comments about the regulatory committees overseeing the stock market, and advocated illegal practices out in the open. Be wary Cramerica, following him blindly will get you in the long-term.
