  • expense ratio on fund question

I have a roth ira with fidelity.
Sometimes I have money in thier "cash reserves".

It has a fund number called fdrxx and it says the expense ratio is .43%.

The perfromance for the past year says it was 2.63%.

So how do I figure out how much the rate of return is for one year after the expense fee?

Would I subtract .43% from 2.63%? (which would mean the money yielded a yearly return of 2.25??
In other words each $100 in the fund for a year would have earned me $2.25?
It seems unwise to have the money in the fund if it charges me fees b/c as far as I know regular bank acocunts and cd's dont' charge expense fees.

    thanks

The stated performance is net, after the expense ratio.

Also, don't be fooled into thinking there are no fees in savings account from banks. They have to pay the FDIC insurance some how. All you need to do is compare the yield of the Money Market fund to the yield of the savings account and see which is higher.

posted return for any mutual fund is always net of expenses- which means the return posted is what you got if you were invested Jan 1-Dec 31 of that year.

ok so the rate of return posted for mutual funds is posted/reported after they deduct the fees taken.(meaning net) thanks
