How do I buy them for my particular state? I don't want to go thru a 3rd party and pay a commission fee.

Bump.....Does anyone have any experience with muni bonds? They seem like a great way to save on taxes.

I'm not aware of a way to buy municipal bonds without a broker (or through a mutual fund). But if anyone else knows a way, please chime in.

Some municipalities also allow you to purchase the bonds directly through them.

This was always my understanding untill i realised you can register free with a numerous companies online that will buy them direct. You cut out the broker and any comission you might pay.

We're talking about municipal bonds. Bonds offered by local and state governments and agencies.
