For opening free checking account before 10/11/08. Just got the mail today. I'm thinking of just doing it just to get the $75. then closed the account immediately.

Just check the fine print. You probably have to keep it open a few months or something, before you can close it.

I wouldn't count on doing this offer--WAMU was just closed down by the government.

WaMu's assets were bought by JPMorgan Chase, so I imagine you will soon be a customer of JPMorgan Chase.

The transition should take about 6 months, so until then JP Morgan Chase will operate WaMu as a sepereate entity.
