I am thinking about putting $5000 for my Roth IRA this year into FAIRX.

    Any thoughts on this fund?

Just wanted to see what opinions are here before I mail in the check!

    Thanks!

I too would like to invest in this fund outside of retirement. What is everyone's thoughts on it?

Hmm, I missed this from back then.

Quick glance.... Large cap, value. ER is 1%. A massive stake in Pfizer. R-squared is 78% to 90%, with a beta of 0.96 to 1.34. Fund size is $8 billion. 57% stocks, 12% cash.

Ok, so what that means to me is that this is you've got an experienced captain at the helm of a very big ship that is hard to steer, although he isn't above making big moves when he sees an opportunity (and such a high % stake in Pfizer makes me wonder if this isn't a concentrated fund rather than a conventional large cap value). The price of admission is about average.

As we can see, they've made a lot of great plays in the beginning, but since 2003, they have more or less trended along with the market.

So, I don't know. In the end, it doesn't seem so bad, but considering that it's now mostly trending along with the market, you might as well buy a market index fund for a lot cheaper.

As always, that's just my $0.02 worth.
