Which banks offer the best checking accounts? I'm looking for something that is free (i'm a student) and with a few fees as possible. Please help... oh I live in NJ if that helps.

I like Commerce Bank. Free checking, free billpay, and branches are open 7 days/week (including nights & weekends).

My bank now offers 3.1% interest rate on checking if you keep a balance of at least $1000.

I have found that your local banks have great promotions. You might want to check that first. If you're in a college town - you might also find some other deals.

I'd go credit union - though shop around - some are worse than banks. Most are better - no fees.
