  • Any Scottrade customers?

I'm thinking about transferring my brokerage account to Scottrade. I was with Olde which was a discount broker until being bought by H&R Block. Then their fees skyrocketed so I want to get out of there. I'm attracted to Scottrade because they have pretty low fees and they also have a local office, so I'll have the option of dealing with someone in person if I need to. I know there are online-only brokers that are even cheaper but I don't mind paying a couple extra bucks for convenience.

Actually Steve, I just got around to opening an account with them this week. I went into a local office by me and it was no problem. I didn't do any trading yet, but I did deposit some money in the account for when I'm ready. And with this market, who knows when that'll be?

I'd say go for it. As soon as you open your account, they give you access to their "tools" and whatnot. I wrote them a check and it was in the account the next day. The only drawback that I could see with them is that they don't do dividend reinvestments at this time. You'd either have to have the money put in their sweep account (which pays nothing), have them cut you a check or reinvest it, but with $7/trade, it's not worth it. They did say that sometime this year they were planning on getting that feature though. Besides that, I think you'll be pleased. Good luck!

Oh, Steve, one thing I forgot about. Actually, I didn't even know it until I opened the account...Could I refer you them? If I were to do that we would both get 3 free trades credited to our individual accounts. All I would need is your first and last name and email address. If you would like to do it, you could just send me a private message with that info. I'm not a spammer or anything. If you don't however, I understand. I just figured I'd ask.

        Steve,

Scottrade was good when I used them. Their customer service replied to all my questions really quick. The only problem I had with them was that they did not offer a DRIP program. You would have to go through a transfer agent if you wanted to have your dividends reinvested.
