Does anyone know if you can open up a Roth IRA with Vanguard now and then in a few years down the road transfer the funds you have in other Roths with other companies into the Vanguard one?

    Thanks

I would assume yes, I'm in the process of rolling an IRA over to TRP. They may expect you to roll the minimum, but maybe they are flexible. I was able to advoid the minimum at TRP by doing asset builder.

Just a caveat: TRP lets you avoid the minimum contribution by using asset builder, however, within an IRA account you will still have to pay a $10 per fund annual fee for any fund with a balance less than $5,000. link

Fortunately, account maintenance fees can be paid separately (i.e. - not deducted from your IRA) if you wish.

        FYI

If you choose to use a discount broker, I would recommend choosing Firstrade. I've used both Firstrade and Scottrade before. They're quite similar to each other, but Firstrade is slightly cheaper and I like it more because it offers some things that Scottrade doesn't such as free DRIPs.
