  • 401K selection advice

Hi all, I've just changed to the new job and I would like to ask you advice on what funds I should be picking, or rather what type of funds given my portfolio which I've put below.

    COL VALUE & RSTRG Z $5,343.91
    Small Cap Growth
    TURNER EMRG GRTH INV $3,786.58
    Foreign
    INTL EQUITY BLEND $2,773.38
DODGE & COX INTL STK $1,468.71
    Specialty
    REAL ESTATE SEC FUND $1,875.44
    Large Cap Growth
    VANGUARD PRIMECAP $2,021.94
    Large Cap Blend
    HARTFORD CAP APP IA $1,484.02
    Mid-Cap Growth
    MUNDER MDCPCORE GR Y $1,522.62
    Mid-Cap Blend
    TCW VALUE OPPS I $1,403.20
    Blended Fund Investments*
    Balanced
    FID BALANCED $1,981.66

    ROTH IRA
    The Growth Fund of America – A ~ $2000
    The Investment Company of America – A ~ $2000
    PFE ~ $2000
    VTI ~ $1000
    EFA ~ $1000

    Mutual Fund
    Target Retirement Fund 2045 ~ $5000

    Saving
    WAMU online savings ~ $5000
The availabe funds from my company are as follows:

    1. Stable Value Fund: very low risk managed by ssga
    2. Bond Fund: low risk managed by ssga

    3. Balanced Fund:
    -Equity funds:
    --S&P 500® Stock Index Fund 40.0%
    --Daily EAFE Index Fund 10.0
--Russell 2000® Stock Index Fund 10.0
    -Fixed-income funds:
    --Bond Fund 40.0%
    4. S&P 500 stock index fund
    5. US Stock Fund: Similar to S&P 500 (I think)
    6. Russell 1000 Value Index
    7. Russell 1000 Growth Index
    8. Russell 2000 Stock Index Fund
    9. Europacific Growth Fund
    10. EAFE Stock Index Fund

I'm ~28 and can afford to take risks.

    I'm thinking of
    S&P 500
    Russell 1000 Growth Index
    and Europacific Growth Fund

I can't be sure if I'm over/under exposing someting though. Basicall it's a retirement accound so I'd like to have as minimal management as possible.

    Thank you again for helping.

Sounds good, although you should check the expense ratios on the underlying funds before you invest in them.

      Good picks.

Your 401(k) should have a broker of record available to all employees to consult on portfolio distributions...check with HR.

You're young and up for some risk...here's my picks FWIW...

      Russell 1000 Value Index - 45%
      Russell 1000 Growth Index - 30%
      Russell 2000 Stock Index Fund - 10%
EAFE Stock Index Fund - 15%

      Cheers,
