Growth stock Mutual Funds with a track record of 10% over a ten year period. If you qualify, Fully fund a roth for 2008 in a mutual fund.

A thumbnail sketch of age, work, state, term of investment, long term financial goal [example buy a house, take a year off to travel] risk tolerance might help generate responses.

Define significant a little, if you please?

Significant to you because you're a poor struggling college student and a thousand bucks looks like the golden goose has landed,

        OR...

Significant means you never ever have to work again in your lifetime?

        OR...

        something in between?

Do you have any high interest debt? If you have credit card debt, personal student loans, etc., I'd pay them first.

After that, I agree with the above posters that we need more info. Age, current portfolio, homeowner or not, kids, etc.

hey why don't you invest some of your money in buying shares because they may give you the instant profit from any other investments but be sure to consult your agent properly before dealing in shares because sometimes their may be loss all because of improper selection of the company of which you buy the shares...

There are amny options like stocks, mutual funds, fixed deposit, etc.
But before this there are few things that you need to specify like the time period, risk factor and return type.

There is another option like you can find a financial planner who can help you in making your investment planning.
