  • Mutual Funds Question

I have got nearly 10K in my Roth IRA invested on some of the fedelity mutual funds which are so far not doing that well. Could you suggest any good mutual fund which is full of tech stocks, mutual fund with high divident and mutual fund which is diversified and safe.

I would like to invest it on some funds which give me atleast 10% every year. current ones I have could maximum give me 5 or 6% i guess. very conservative.

    Thanks

I recommend index mutual funds or ETFs. Try this website:

    Data - IndexUniverse

No one can tell you what fund is going to give you 10% a year. Best bet is to choose a low expense ratio fund/ETF that meets your risk tolerance and hope for the best.

For tech, look at VGT. For dividends, look at VDIGX (I like Vanguard). You are not going to find a "safe" fund making 10% a year. Return=risk. Any return higher than 5% is going to imply some level of risk.

      I'll recomend 3 funds

T Rowe Price Equity Income PRFDX- pays 2%+ dividends per year and solid long term performer. 45% of my retirement is in this one fund.

T Rowe Price Global Technologies PRGTX- I don't own this, it is an global tech fund.

T Rowe Price Spectrum Income RPSIX- pays 4%+ yield from a portfolio which is 15% equity and 85% cash and bonds. Long term returns in 6% range, very safe. I have about 3% of my assets in this fund, growing the position at 1% every 6 months.

I highly doubt you will find charactoristics of all 3 funds rolled into one. If you want 10%+ returns and "safe", those are oxymorons. No fund can do both consistently.

I would read up on asset allocation (because if you invested in the 3 funds above without choosing anything else, there might be some issues with allocation). I would also read up on risks (because there are many kinds of risks of above- interest rate risk, market risk, currency risk, inflation risk, return risk and political risk for starters.

      I own

      PRFDX
      PRDMX
      PRDSX
      TRIGX
      PRIDX
      RPSIX

as my core funds for investing.
      I also own
      PRNHX
      RPMGX
      PRPFX

for various other reasons. I also have other holdings in my 401k and my wifes 401k/IRA.
