  • Please help me choose my 401k allocations

I am 31, married, no kids, total household income is 95k. I have just finished paying off all credit card debt, and am working off the car loan now. After the car loan we will have 0 debt outside of our mortgage.

Because of mistakes made in the past and the recent corrections (ie credit card debt) we have only about 5k in our savings account and no other retirement savings yet. Once the car loan is payed off I will be agressively funding the EF and starting the Roths.

Go for the Schwab Managed Retirement Trust 2040. Here is the breakdown of what it holds:

Charles Schwab Trust Company: Collective Trust Funds

Looks pretty good for your age. You could go 2050 if you want to be a bit more aggressive.

I would go with the target date fund aswell. Which year you pick would depend upon how aggressive you want to be. I would chose 2040 or 2050.

I always go with the Target date funds for the majority of my 401K(80%) and then "play" with the rest. Maybe experiment in small parts in something that you may be interested in like gold or specialty funds. Who says investing cant be fun!

I like both of the American Funds.
