  • Which TSA should I choose?

I am trying to figure out which TSA I should invest in with relation to a 403b plan through my school district in PA. I already have an investment started with Oppenheimer but would like to know if I would be better served with another one of the following below or changing my investment plan altogether and start an IRA.

The choices I have from my TSA vendor list are:

Ameriprise Financial, AXA Equitable, Franklin Templeton, Great West Life, Horace Mann, ING Life Ins. & Annuity Co., Kemper Investors, Legg Mason Wood Walker, Lincoln Benefit Life, Lincoln Investment Planning, Lincoln National Life, Mass Mutual, Met Life, Nationwide, Northwestern Mutual Life Ins. Co., OPPENHEIMER, Pacific Life, Philips Financial, PlanMember Services Corp., Pro Integrity, Security Benefit Life, Thrivent Financial, Travelers Ins., Union Central, WM Group of Funds.

Its a long list but I want to know where I can put the teacher salary $ my wife and I have (both in education). Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Be very careful, I began my TSA with Primeamerica, and if offered 5%, the first year and it has been currently earning 3% for the past 6 years with no signs of improvement. First off, check the fees associated with the management of your account, plus with the particular TSA that I have, you do not have an opportunity to invest where you see fit, to me it is a total waste and I feel so trapped...... I am 31, and stuck with a 3% investment until I retire.......Do not make a rushed decision....However, the CA retirement system for educations is pretty good- study long and hard.

Thank you for your input. I am still trying to decide if Oppenheimer is the best fund for me as I am pretty much a rookie at load fees, expense ratios, etc. I am still trying to figure out if an IRA is better suited for me.
