  • International Electronic Transfers - Which Banks Offer?

I am seeking a decent bank where I can do international electronic transfers, not wire transfers, can be made, the bank must have the ablity to allow the customer to do all their banking from a computer and never have to step foot in the bank.

    Have you looked at HSBC?

Thank you. Generally speaking I avoid using HSBC, their policies and fees are not beneficial to the customer. But I will check out their offshore accounts to see if they have a more friendly policy, but I doubt it. Thanks.

Perhaps also take a look at some brokerages like E*Trade and Schwab. They do global and they do online banking; I'm just not sure if they combine them.

I have had bad experiences with HSBC. I would not go down that road.

I will take a look E-Trade and Schwab and see, but I am guessing their fees will be quite high for transfers.

                I use Wells Fargo. $4 fee/remittance.

                  ealimbuyao,

For international transfers it's only $4? Are you sure? And does that include the fees from the intermediary bank?

Do they allow this to be done online?

I checked earlier, it is actually $5 if going to the recipient's bank account. And $10 if to be picked up as cash in the recipient's country. Check their website. What is your recipient country? I don't know if they offer this to all countries. No fee for the recipient.

Can be done on-line or by phone.

I will have to check this out--my husband still has bills to pay in the UK, and right now I pay $50 every time I transfer money to his UK account from our US one!

Wells Fargo customer service said it would cost $32 to transfer from a US bank to UK account. But Washington Mutual (WaMu) will do it for free, and I don't have to go in to do it! I'm going to give them a shot, because if it's really free, that could save me $600 a year!

Yeah, but is that WaMu to any bank in the UK? And did you ask them what intermediary bank they are using and what they charge? OR the recieving banks intermediary bank may charge a fee, better find out before you process it, it may end up costing you more as not all banks can work directly with each other. And I can tell you, if it HSBC, you will be nailed hard with fees.

Never mind, the WaMu lady didn't know what she was talking about; I'd have to go into the bank. Ugh...half an hour's work applying and getting approved, all for nothing.

Why does that not surprise me... I have emailed about four banks just a few moments ago, so I suspect some replies in a few days to my inquires. If I find something will let you know.
