Hi all, im glad i found a forum to discuss money matters for the future and here is my current situation.

My wife and I would like to begin investing in stocks and are shopping around for a good platform.
Can anyone recommend a solid application they have been using, i have researched a few and i keep returning to Scottrade.com, does anyone use it? is it okay? should i be wary of anything?

Any information would be great, i appreciate the time.

Scottrade is one of the best, IMO.

I use Scottrade and they are the most economical from what I researched.

I am going to probably move my ETF over to Charles Schwab just so I have all my investments (mutual funds, banking, ETF's) under one roof. Call me crazy but I just want to be able to log onto one website and see it all.

        Scotttrade charges $7 per trade.

Schwab charges $12.95 (I think) per trade but I don't trade that much so an extra $5.00 here or there isn't really an issue. At most, I rebalance 2x/year, and sometimes not even that. They also waive trade fees for IRA mutual funds so I can automatically invest with them.

If you are going to be trading a lot (you plan to manage 5-20 stocks), it would probably be worth it to stay with Scottrade IMO.

        Good luck.

Scottrade has a really nice trading platform, and the commissions are really about the lowest out there. The trading platform displays realtime quotes with a live ticker, realtime charts, and instant quotes. My orders have always been executed instantly, and at the best price. It's a very friendly user interface, even though it's packed with features. The biggest drawback to the Scottsdale platform is that it consists of several different windows which take up alot of space. Also, they charge extra if you want a paper trail of confirmations and statements. I've also used Ameritrade, H&R Block, and Schwaab. I like Scottsdale's platform best, H&R Block the least.

Does any of these discount brokers offer a free dividend reinvestment?
