Given the subprime mortgage crisis I am considering the following investment scenario and would appreciate any comments. The Vanguard REIT ETF is down a little over 4% and the yield is up to 4.49%. I would like to set up a buy order in a self directed Roth IRA to buy if the price dips to around $60 with yield around 6%. I have a 10 yr time horizon for this IRA. My thought is buy this low and let it grow. I realize this goes against conventional advice never to time the market but I believe the subprime event will pass and REITS will come back up in price within the 10 year time frame. Since this is a highly diversifed REIT ETF I feel this is a low risk investment. Can someone recommend a low cost online broker where a self directed IRA can be set up for this? Is there a better low risk investment out there for this time span? I already have plenty of traditional equity exposure.
