Non of these online banks in my experience every will tell you when the rates drop, you have to keep an eye on the newspapers and see what the Fed is doing. I was expecting it and thus the reason I decided to start looking for forums to see if there was some other alternatives, I was getting used to this high interest rate season but I knew it was too good to last long.

I am very surprised about countrywide's offering of such a high interest rate, and am unsure how they are doing it. You may be right about them needing money so they are able to do that...

Well, I keep a lot of cash because my husband builds spec homes. When we build, we pay cash for the land and materials. I do watch the rates and switch around but I have been sticking to local banks. I am a little nervous about putting a lot of money into an internet bank since I am not very good on a computer.
Vanguard's money market has been paying 5% so I am opening up an account there. I can still get 4.75 % locally.
