  • Got $100 of of Bank of America

Back in June I was paying my CC bill online and there was an ad for a $100 bonus if I opened a checking account online with Bank of America. After reading the fine print, I decided to take them up on it.

Well, the $100 was deposited into my account at the end of last week, so I went to the bank today to cash out and close my account. The guy asked me why and I told him that I'd done it for the $100 bonus only. He sarcastically said, "thanks for that." I'm thinking, well, you guys offered and when was the last time he had turned down free money? He acted all surprised and offended that someone would take advantage of their offer in such a manner.

I walked out with my $100, put it in my Wamu checking account, and tomorrow it gets transferred to my Emigrant savings account!

Well, in business and in life, there's give and take. They didn't say free money, take it without any commitment. The deal was money in exchange for doing business with them. I rarely do anything like this because I believe in money karma. Without a fair exchange, that money might just find itself moving on soon enough.

I personally don't see a problem with it. She did do all the business with them that was required. BofA could have required a long term commitment but chose not to, apparently.

      Good deal.

It wouldn't be the first time a BoA representative was rude and sarcastic.
