I guess they want to make sure you won't run up a huge phone bill that you can't afford to pay.

I know someone who has no established credit - she's 20 and still lives at home - and has been unable to get a cellphone in her name because of this. AT&T wanted a $500 security deposit for her to open an account, which she can't afford at this point in her life.

Any online bank will pull your credit report when opening an account with them. What you should find out before opening the account is whether it's a "hard" or "soft" pull.

I opened an account with ING just to get the free bonus, but that is the only one. I have three checking accounts, two money market checking accounts, and 2 c.d.'s at 3 different local banks. I am lucky to be getting 5.25% on the money markets and more than that on the c.d's.

Does anyone use automatic investment transfers w/ online banking? I tried to setup an Automatic transfer to Fidelity from Emigrant Direct, but it was rejected for some reason.

I will end up calling them later this morning I guess. It's frustrating to send money to my checking b4 I consider paying all bills.

Did you try to have Emigrant send the payment to Fidelity every month or did you try to have Fidelity PULL the money from your account? I know with some banks they won't allow you set up anything that sends money out of your account except as an automatic bill-pay type option. If you initiate the transfer from Fidelity and have them pull it from your account, it should work.

i split the money in between a few banks. I also use online banking for each one. Doing things online is much easier.
