  • Low Commission

I am new to trading, and have in particular been looking at TD Ameritrade as the investment company to use (Posted a thread about that yesterday), but I am not going to be investing much at all at first, I will only be playing with say 100 or 200 dollars until I get the hang of thigns. Since this is the case, where should I invest taht has the lowest maintenance and commission fees? (Fidelity didn't seem to be good for beginners but I may be wrong)

    Thanks!

With that amount of money, and the purpose being to explore and learn, I would think you would do better with a company like ShareBuilder or BUYandHOLD.

If you want more of the standard broker experience with a low commission, you might check TradeKing.

There is also a newer service called Zecco that offers free trades, up to a certain number per day/month. I don't know much about it but it is interesting.

What is the story about Zecco. Is there a catch to the free commisions?

No catch. They explain how they make money in their FAQ.

I recommend Zecco (read my Zecco Trading Review), TradeKing, or ShareBuilder.

I've had experience with all 3, and they serve as great starter accounts. The only knock on ShareBuilder is that limit trades are very expensive to make.

You'll get destroyed on the $15 commission fees if you trade a lot.
