  • How are your investments doing so far in 2007?

I just checked the 1-year performance of my 7 equity funds as of 5/31. They are having a banner year:

    22.62%
    19.48%
    27.96%
    19.59%
    18.22%
    22.46%
    29.42%

If numbers like that could keep up, I'd be retired in no time.

Are you sure those numbers are for 2007 (YTD) as opposed to the last 12 months?

In my 403b, I have a mix of growth, moderate and conservative (85%, 10%, and 5% respectively).

The growth's past 12 months return is 23.94%
There are 10 funds in the growth -
        American funds Europacific A
        Am. Fnds Growth
        Am. Fnds Fundamental Inv
        American Funds New Perspective
        Columbia Acorn Fund
Lord Abbett Mid Cap Value Fund
        Davis New York Venture
        JP Morgan Small Cap Value
        Am. Funds Small Cap World

Year to date its only done 10.57%

The past 12 months on my roth (retirement target fund 2045 TRRKX) has done 11.74%

My stock picks have done terrible though. lol Ford, SCANA, and Vonage have gone down since my purchases. I dont like purchasing individual stock right now... kinda sends my confidence level plummeting.

Sorry if that wasn't clear. They are 1-year performance as of 5/31, not YTD.

Oh thanks for clarifying, I was REALLY blown away - LOL.

            FDVLX 24.99%
            DODFX 28.25%
            BRUFX 11.00%
            *VGSTX 16.78%
            VGTSX 28.15%
            VTSMX 22.47%

*Balanced Fund which is doing darn good...

I unfortunately have not held all of these assets for the entire last year. Bummer. Then again I have held all of the index funds since most of these returns have hit, and all the international ones for a while, so have seen much of it. Retirement would certainly be a pinch with returns like this all the time.

              VTIVX - 24.2%

COP is up 19% since I bought it in Jan.
AAPL is up 56%, but that includes a position I just bought a few weeks ago. Some of my base in that is up almost 100%.
GE is up about 5% since I bought it in Dec of 2006.

I wish there were fewer funds, but it is a function of different company retirement plans and having to pick from the available options. I definitely have overlap as far as fund types but it was pretty much unavoidable. With DW starting a new job next week and a new 401K, we will be adding at least one more fund to the mix.

I was wondering the same thing Jim but then I looked at the numbers. You used T Rowe's website and I used Morningstar. Your YTD is up to the current day whereas Morningstar's is a trailing YTD. Morningstar also shows 13.3% YTD. And your "1 Year" ended on 5-31 whereas Morningstar's is current at 6-28 and trailing also.

Either way we both did pretty good so far with it
