  • Has anyone been satisfied with JPM/Chase?

A small local bank that I used to bank with for about 12 years was bought out by BankOne about 7 years ago, then BankOne was bought out by JP Morgan Chase.

Now I loved my service with the local bank. The rates were always competitive and what they did for the customer was amazing. Well, times changed a bit, and BankOne took over, still it was good for me, not as good of service, but I admit, better than other banks that I had accounts with. Now Chase is the boss, and it seems like they could care less about their customers. I seem to get this feedback from everyone who banks with them. Now I didn't come here to just bad mouth the company. I was more wondering if anyone who has some sort of account with them is actually satisfied, and why are they? Chase is the largest bank in the Chicagoland area, so a lot of people are banking with them because they were either forced in, or like what they have to offer. It makes me think that some people here have an account with Chase, and possibly have some feedback to share.

Like you, I had Bank One, but in a credit card which was bought out by Chase. My card goes even farther back than Bank One. So far, Chase has been fine, no problems. They have grandfathered in rules that I had with the other card company about the points. I like their website and like the point system where you can redeem for cash or other gifts or cards. I even redeem my points online and I receive my prize fairly soon. So, overall, I have been happy with them. I haven't had any unpleasant conversations with their customer service. They seem willing to help you and to resolve any problem that you have.

DW and I live in the Chicago area. We have a Chase checking/saving account, and 2 credit cards.

The credit cards are only a year old. They were used to take advantage of 0% balance transfers. Now we have all of our credit cards paid off, and these cards are a bit superfluous.

They do have a nice website, with checking, savings, and credit cards all accessible from the main accounts page. We may try to merge the 2 cards and hang on to it just for the convenience factor. The Flexible Rewards card is okay, though the APR is nothing special.

Outside of the website and the many locations, Chase doesn't seem to have a lot going on. I don't know how their loans compare, but we are getting 0.4% on the savings and 0.0% on the checking, along with annoying little fine-print restrictions. Their credit card rates seem a little high. I was just looking at their mutual funds yesterday out of curiosity, and no one but a sucker would invest there.

Their banks are staffed by low-wage kids, whose only training seems to be focused upon hawking Chase products.

I've had no real complaints. There have been no accounting errors or silly games played or customer service nightmares. I'll keep the accounts, with a minimal balance, merely for the convenience of being able to relocate and not have to worry about banking needs. If I want to deposit a check or get some cash, their is always a branch or ATM nearby. The Chase account serves as an anchor. I do most of my actual banking elsewhere.
