    Sounds like your dad knows what's important to him and is doing just fine. When you get to a certain age, you're not interested in change, even if there would be a rational benefit. Maybe it's best to let Dad do what he wants with his money.

      Keep in mind that many "online" banks are actually just websites of physical "bricks and mortar" banks, so you can sign up and bank online or, if you live in the area, can also go in and bank in person. Often, though, the rates offered online are better than if you walked into a branch.

      To use my earlier examples, AmTrust Direct is the online presence of Ohio Savings Bank. World Savings Bank is a physical bank but offers higher CD rates through the internet (though I imagine if you print out the offer and walk into a branch, they'd probably match it). Countrywide Savings also has numerous physical branches.

        Thanks so much most everyone. This has been a eye opener for my Dad. And after reading this thread with him, I found out he's making less that 2% with US bank. Thats highway robbery vsjhoc.
