  • Can I Make An IRA Contribution?

I was wondering how to contribute to IRA account for the year in which your spouse is expired so you are still able to save taxes.

I am still allowed to file jointly.

What do you mean "your spouse is expired"? Did you get divorced? And why would you want to contribute to your spouse's IRA, if that's the case? Can you clarify your question?

If your spouse is deceased, I believe you are able to contribute money to your ira up to the $4000 limit. This assumes you had a least $4000 in earned income combined...or only his income. I don't think at this point you can contribute to his account. His ira will become your ira...you will need to fill out paperwork with the mutual fund company and send in a certified copy of the death certificate. Best wishes to you!
