Is ING Direct compatible with Chase?

I tried to open an ING Direct account last week and was going to use my Chase checking account for the transfer. I waited the full 4 days but never saw the ING verification deposit into my checking account. Once the 4 days had passed, I received this email from ING....

We wanted to let you know that the financial institution for your checking account returned the initial deposit you made to open your new ING DIRECT Account.

What does this mean?

Unfortunately, since the initial deposit you used to open your new ING DIRECT Account was returned, we had to close your account and delete your external checking account link. If you have any questions about the returned transaction, please contact your financial institution.

To re-open this account or open a new account, just give us a call at

Yes, I have, about a year and a half ago. Don't know why you would be experiencing problems; my advice would be to call them.

I wouldn't be surprised if Chase had some new policy designed to keep people using Chase's own bank services. They have some of the strangest and most outlandish policies out there.

Still, I would expect that it is probably not something so dubious. Give ING a call and inquire about it and then call Chase. It can probably be resolved. Maybe it is even a protection on your account that you have to pre-authorize such a linkage. (?)

May I ask if you used one of the Saving Advice ING links? If you did and your account got closed, it would answer a question I had about why one of the invitations that I sent Jeffrey to be used was credited as a new account and then reversed.

Sorry about Chase not accepting the transfers; how frustrating.

I don't know about ING (interest rate is too low), but I've had no problem linking Chase with HSBC, GMAC and E-LOAN.

I linked my chase checking to ING about 3 months ago and it worked fine.
