For anyone who may be interested, Imperial Capital Bank is currently offering a rate of 5.50% APY on a 3 month CD.

Is this the best rate going? I cannot find anything higher, but haven't tried real hard yet either. I have $5k burning a hole in my pocket and was going to put it in an Eloan savings acct.

I also have another $7.5k+ CD that is going to mature on Nov 4th that is going to be cashed out and put somewhere else than Etrade if I can get 5.5% or more.

Eloan has a 5.7% APY 1 year CD with a minimum $10k balance. I may go that route personally unless I can find a little better.

For a one year CD, the E*LOAN rate you mentioned (5.70% APY) and a similar offer by AmTrust Direct (5.71% APY) are the two best that I know of at this time. An advantage of the AmTrust CD is that it only requires $1,000 to open. Other than that, they are essentially the same.

Indymac Bank has a 5-mo CD with a $5K minimum at 5.5% APY.
Bankrate gives them a 4-star Safe & Sound rating (out of 5).
We have a CD and an MMA there and have been very happy with the service.

One of my banks was offering a 5.8% for 9 months.

I just checked and it still is. You only need $500 for that c.d.
