Right now, it's student loans. I'm paying into it with everything I can spare, so it comes out as the highest expense.

Housing is more than 50% for me as well...

But besides that, I spend as much in gas as a do in food! :P

These are my 4 top

Retirement Savings 15%
Tithe 10%
Housing 9%
Food 7%

I spend half as much on Gas as food but I live in town and everythings is really close. Also I got a great deal on a small fixer house, this is based on a 15 year mortgage but I hope to pay it off before that.

Housing and insurance, in that order. I'm tempted to toss taxes into the ring, but that's not exactly something I "spend money on."

Taxes Taxes Taxes I hate them. If you add them all up they take a little over 40% of my gross.

I treat taxes like an expense, because there are ways to increase and decrease my tax liability.

I spend:
25% - taxes
15% - car (payment, insurance & gas)
13% - retirement funds (401k & Roth)
5% - rent

we own 3 properties... no mtg... but, lots of taxes and insurances.....
