Re: Ways To Save Over $100

Well, just recently we took a hit in the chest big time with an emergency auto problem. Since trying to figure out what to do next.
Since we no doubt are on an extremely tight budget I started looking....
I looked at my land line. Only thing I could delete is private number charge of 5.23 a month. So I did. We have a dime all the time as far as long distance and NO cells already so we had to keep that. Single line phone no beels or whistles. Then next can the cable bill. Turned it off completely. Saving of 48.00 a month. The kids hate the rabbit ears and the only three channel thing but they do enjoy eating so if ya ask me it is a trade off.
We did these things when my hubbys ex upped the child support! Long story all together but just mentioning her job profession will tell the whole story. She is a paralegal/legal secretary!
Now, last friday dh trucked died again and we have to figure out the ol' thingy.....fix it or forget it!

I can understand where you are extremely lucky and might just live in a area not prone to parvo or keeters. But girl! I have seen several adult and puppy dogs die a slow terrible death from parvo! Even once a friend of mine was just as you. Had an older dog that been there done that several years on the shots and skipped a year. GIRL! Her 11 year old died of parvo. I held her for hours. I even tried a herbal mixture that a vet I know used on older dogs but I couldn't save her. It was sooo sad. I know you just love animals no doubt if you have an elder on the property! LOL
    But There are several places out there that offer shot clinics if you are not bave enough to go at it on your own. They cost on 5.00 around here and you recieve rabies too! Just a helpfull suggestion. Not being hateful once bit sweetie. Just worried about the {Just in case!}

Cut your own grass. All of our neighbors have someone come every week and cut their lawns. We do our own.

You could use 4 Xfer your Rx and get a $25 GC coupons.
Target, CVS, Walgreens and Brooks have them a lot.
Of course, if you don't take that many Rx's... good for you!

You could try some no-gas days.

You could cancel a gym membership that bills you monthly.

You could dog walk/pet sit/house sit for someone.

If you fill up the gas tank at around four in the morning (where the gas is coldest and therefore densest) instead of six in the afternoon, you could save 10% on gas. That would mean at least $100 a year.

I hope you don't make any calls at that rate. $.10/minute for long distance is way too high. We have $.03/minute, though we don't use it anymore since we got our cell phones. For you, I'd suggest buying calling cards at Wal-Mart of other discount store. You should be able to buy long distance for about $.03/minute using a card.

This sounds silly but I called Geico and their adds are right. I instantly saved $946.00 per year on our auto insurance. It pays to examine everything you are paying and start making phone calls.

If you want to add at least $100.00 to savings really quick have a garage sale. Put an add in the paper and start going through and pricing items a week before. We made $460.00 on our last garage sale.

gruntina, did you really type that whole note on your phone? with itty bitty keys? or do you use a library computer or special keyboard or something?

and 63 is less than my net plus phone...so if you look at it as two bills rather than one it isn't as bad....

(A Sprint PPC) not cheap but the slide out keyboard is decent size. I could type easily on that thing but I would not be able to read everything that is on this site on that tiny thing.

I am thinking about selling a couple rings that I have. I do love them but I am wiling to do that to remind myself that my heart is not into materialistic things.

My husband does all the maintenence work around the house. He just refinished the hardwood floors. He repainted the garage. He pressure washes the house every summer. He really saves us a lot of money by doing all of these things.

Ah, I see, I was just wondering..My phone is old and looks like a umm phone no one types on it or anything! I have enough troubly trying to put in my 'password' so I was just wondering how far the tech has come...(or how skilled your fingers were!)

And you are prolly in the minority of worrying about company time I know everyonce in awhile DH tells me how long it is 'supposed to take' to do a job or something and it is WAY less real time, I think the guestimated time was padded by way to much emailing/thread reading!

Order water with all your meals out. I bet that would save $100 a year and be a lot healthier!

That's a good tip. Appetizers, beverages (especially alcohol), and desserts are all high-cost additions.

Another tip: Order breakfast for lunch if you have to eat out. Cheapest meal on the menu most places.

We brown bag and bring our own mixers to restaurants, that saves a ton of money!!

Re: Ways To Save Over $100

I'm sure someone has already mentioned this before, but here's what I do...

When I have to buy something somewhere, I pay cash and never dig around for change - I just use the dollar bills. What change I get back goes to the money jar at home. About every 4 weeks, I'll roll up the change and when I get $100, it goes to the bank in savings.

Another thing I do...all my rebates from RiteAid and mail-in-offers go into savings.

I also pay myself when I clean the house. I transfer $40 over everytime I do house cleaning (which varies from weekly to biweekly depending on how much we're home). I use to pay someone $45 to clean bathrooms, kitchen and den every 2 weeks, but now I pay myself because I still budget that money for cleaning.

And I have an automatic debit from my account monthly to a higher yield account. My paycheck take home pay does not reflect this amount so I don't "see" it. It's gone before I get it - easier to not miss it...
