Re: Anyone have recommendations for a VCR
A VCR??? You can really get these cheap now a days. I'd check local repair shops for those that went in and were never picked up. They will also know the good brands. Pawn shops would be another good place to look. I know I've seen them as low as $20 at Wal-mart, but I think you want better than than from the sounds of it (and yes it had front jacks).

Re: Anyone have recommendations for a VCR
Actually, high-quality VCRs cost more now than they did a year or two ago. Lot's of cheap ones: Emerson, Sylvania, RCA, Zenith, Magnavox. If you want a better one: Panasonic, JVC, Sony, etc., you'll have to pay more unless you happen to get a refurbished or used unit.
Use Froogle and MySimon. Check eBay.

Here's one at Circuit City: Panasonic VHS HiFi VCR (PV-V4525S)
Nothing special, but a good name and free shipping. If you shop around, you can probably beat this, but probably not by too much.

Check Overstock.com. They have Sony and Panasonic, among other names, for around that same price. Plus, they have some refurbished items like DVD/VCR combos from Toshiba, Panasonic, etc. at around $69.99, etc.

Re: Anyone have recommendations for a VCR
There were several on my freecycle list group today. You may want to check that out too. We really don't use the VCR too much anymore. We do have some older videotapes that we watch but for the most part everything is dvd now.
