Kids need that energy release and breathe of fresh air. I can not believe they would do a thing like this.

This is just some red meat for the anti-public school crowd.
If we want 'red meat' there is plenty on the cow known as 'public school'.

While I do not condem public school based on one example (or 7), I have looked at the model of mass education and age based education as a whole. (not to mention government instututions). The whole big picture is much bleaker than canceling a recess here and there.

We have the luxury of viewing public schools with a microscope and critiquing every problem, big and small. We don't get that luxury with private schools and especially with homeschoolers.

Personally, I think the public schools are a "scapegoat" for just about everything. There are alot of very good public schools. And, there are alot of very good teachers who are doing the best they can. There is good and bad to everything. I think public school has been a great success. OK, send the flames my way!

I tend to agree that some public schools are great! I personally am aware that I am not talented enough to teach my child at home so I rely on public school! But some are not so good either but I think that is the case in all areas!

My children are only allowed to run on grassed areas at their schools. Luckily that is a large enough area. When my daughter was at preschool they tried to bring in a peanut butter ban. None of the children attending had an allergy it was just in case someone started with an allergy. As a parent I protested with others and the idea was scrapped.

The peanut butter thing is just a matter of time -- ie schools everywhere will be banning it soon. Dd is allergic to peanuts, so I watch a different forum about it. Already schools are having to deal with 529s and lots of adaptations. Furthermore, more and more kids are PA. Eventually they'll find it easier to ban it outright I think. (Keep in mind peanut allergies are different than most since many people react to mere contact and a significant percentage have anaphalactic reactions which are terrifying and expensive at best and deadly at worst.)

Peanut allergy can be deadly. It is not just a question of developing a runny nose and sneezing. This is a life threatening anaphylaxis. And, children are children, so a child with this type of allergy does not fully understand the ramifications of this nor do they know how to completely avoid it since alot of products contain peanuts.
I really do not think it is unreasonable for the school to ban peanut butter if there is a known child with such a risk. And, what would your position be if it were YOUR child?
But, I don't think it is necessary to ban it in general, just when there is a known case who presents to the school.

On the contrary I can scrutinize what goes on in my home school all I like, down to the last microscopic detail

As for peanuts, well it is a safety issue, when you have that many kids in that small of an area, and that few adults to help keep tabs on it...

Our cousin (younger, about 5) is allergic, and she was in the kitchen when my kids were eating trail mix..We couldn't even let her eat the raisins that were in the mix, poor kid, but in a room of 4 kids and half a dozen adults we had time and energy to both prevent her touching them and to go find her a substitute. In a class of 10, 20 or 30 I doubt one or two grownups would have the time...not condeming said grownup, just stating the facts of 1 adult to 10-30 (or more) kids.
