I get really challenged when I see people with a specific claim to fame or expertise pretending to be an expert in another field.
There is a difference however when a person uses their name or influence to help others without portraying themselves as the expert. It is simply not possible in this day to get media attention unless you are well known.
I simply look very scheptically at famous people when they stand up for a cause. I ask the questions...
Where are they in their career?
Do they have a new CD, movie, etc coming out?
Is their career going through a quiet phase?
When all of those questions are answered I then start thinking about what they are saying.
Sounds good but I often find that I've been caught because I hadn't known of something happening in the background.
