  • Terrible Customer Service From 1,750 BC

Imagine having such terrible customer service that 3,800 years later people are still hearing about your bad reputation.

Here is a consumer complaint tablet from a copper buyer named Nanni in the city state of Ur to a notorious copper vendor named Ea-Nasir in the year 1750 BC. The complaint states that on one occasion, Ea-Nasir had agreed to sell copper ingots to Nanni. Nanni sent his servant with the money to complete the transaction. The copper was considered by Nanni to be sub-standard and was not accepted.

Nanni also complained that his servant (who handled the transaction) had been verbally abused by Ea-Nasir. He stated that, at the time of writing, he had not accepted the copper, but had paid for it.

It just goes to show that while nobody uses cuneiform tablets to complain some things are still universal.

People remember poor service far more than anything else. Nearly 4,000 years later and the complaint still stands.

I wonder if this is so much a general complaint or if it is some form of legal instrument. I'd hate to be the paralegal working in their court rooms who had to carry in a days worth of legal proceedings.

Not too many people talk about how everything went as planned when they go to a store or restaurant.
But here we are 4000 years later about this poor experience

Supposedly also some archeologists excavated this guys house and found numerous consumer complaints in the wreckage. Its amazing how a bad reputation can follow you.
