  • Whats The Story Behind The Charging Bull On Wall Street?

The Charging Bull is an iconic piece of art that stands in the financial district in Manhattan. The 7,100 pound statue gets a bad bad rap as an image of the status quo and unchecked greed. But, it wasn't always like the case. The statue is the creation of Italian artist Arturo Di Modica and was inspired by a pair of huge metallic sculptures, a charging bull and a bear, placed in front of the Frankfurt, Germany Stock Exchange in 1985. Di Modica installed the statue in 1987 and after a series of wrangling with local officials the bull was allowed to stay in its current location. The bull is a poignant symbol of hope for institutional and individual investors.

I personally like it. I am intrigued by the thought of what happened to the bear statue.

Symbols and icons surround us every day. Even the letter A is derived from a pictogram of the bull (inverted).

For sure, this kind of thing matters. Investing large amounts of stocks in a speculative manner can be intensely emotionally difficult. People need a reminder that good times will come back, especially in a down market.
