Is it just me or are prices for Uber/Lyft increasing?

Am I the only one noticing increasing prices for Uber/Lyft which are starting to become the same as taxis prices, not quite as much but getting close? From home to either Los Angeles airport (LAX) or Long Beach airport used to be $12-$18, now it's $25-$30 for either Uber/Lyft. The price of a taxi is about $30-$35. I only use Uber/Lyft to get to and from airports when travelling which is maybe twice a year. I'm heading to Reno today out of Long Beach airport and Lyft is showing an estimate of a $25-$30 fare.

I would guess that the Lyft/Uber prices eventually far surpass the cab companies, because they offer a much better product. I would pay more for Lyft or Uber so I don't have ride in one of those nasty cabs.

Interesting point. I wonder if the majority of users would continue to use them if they were as expensive or more than cabs. I suspect they would because, as you said, they offer a superior product. It will be interesting to see how this evolves.

Lyft/Uber > Cabs > Bus > bicycle > walk

We were in DC seeing sites on Wednesday and Thursday and used Lyft about 8 times on different jaunts. Most of the time a driver arrived in 2-3 minutes and the fare was $5-10. Try driving your car and parking at these places all day - you'll drop $150 on parking. We were basically chauffeured around all day in DC for way less than 100 bucks. I never even got my wallet out - it's all already programmed on my PayPal and you just jump in and jump out. A taxi can't match that service, not by a long shot.

First time I've really used Lyft, and was impressed.

Agreed. No argument here. There is a huge convenience factor. I also love that I know up front how much the ride is going to cost.

Yes and it was nice that the driver had showered within the last two days.

I parked one mile from Long Beach airport and walked the remainder of the way. Out of curiousity I wanted to see how much it might cost for a 1 mile ride, $8.80. Needless to say I walked it.

probably partially due to increased regulation. in my town, the cabbies are lobbying hard to regulate ride sharing.

One mile: Was probably a non-garage parking lot.
Trip to Reno: QuarterMillion probably had something like a really small carry-on or a backpack.
$8.80: More for the slot machines!

Gas prices have gone up, so it's stands to reason transportation costs will also.

Funny stuff! You guys crack me (lol). On a more serious note one of my wheels broke off from my suitcase. So it looks like on my return on July 4th that I have no choice but to order an Uber/Lyft. I despise paying $8.80 so I might just drag my suitcase along the side of the freeway, it is only about 1 mile away (ha-ha).

Well what’s a new wheel thingy gonna run ya? Any time you take a pass on Uber, you need to factor in wear and tear on your suitcase wheels - those things can get pricey.
