    So far they’ve only contacted her by mail. That’s easy to ignore. If they start calling and refuse to stop, I’ll get a lawyer involved. I have enough lawyer friends who would be happy to send a letter.

      Must be nice to know attorneys who can draft a letter for you. Through work I pay $20 a month for this exact group legal service which covers these services. I have not needed to use any services yet but it's nice to know it'll be there if needed.

        It's come in handy a number of times over the years. Of course, them having a friend who is a doctor has come in handy for them a number of times, too.

          That sounds like a frustrating situation. Hopefully, the Discover mix-up is just a one-time thing and won't lead to more unwanted mail. Dealing with these posthumous financial matters can be a hassle. It's good that you responded to the collection agency and contacted Discover to clarify things.
