  • Referral board?

Would it be possible to create a referral board? That way it's all contained in one area. I'm asking because I've found something that has been a huge help with Christmas gifts for my 4 kids. I've been able to get everything completely free from it and wanted to share it with everyone. I just don't want to spam post it everywhere though. It would be great if you consider my idea. Thanks!

    Kimberly,

Thank you for mentioning this! It is a great idea.

If what you want to publish is a referral link, where you are going to get paid from people using the link, it's probably not a good fit for Saving Advice. We get a lot of that and usually issue an immediate ban.

If it is something that you think will genuinely help others, then, by all means, please do post it wherever you think its best. In fact, we love to see postings like that.

Actually, I don't get paid money when someone uses my referral code. It's a free game app. You roll dice to win tickets and redeem them for free stuff. You don't pay for anything. There's no payment info to put in and free shipping. Items come from Amazon.

You start with 50 rolls when you join. To earn more rolls you watch video ads, take surveys and refer people to the game. I receive 30 bonus rolls every time someone uses my code. They make money from the video ads and surveys that the players complete and in turn the players get free stuff. I have an album full of things I've received if anyone would like proof.

Every item comes with an Amazon gift receipt. The app works for both android and iOS phones/tablets. However, if you have an iphone, it won't show up in the App Store. If you go to the website there are direct links to the app for android and iOS.

Thanks for allowing me to post this.

In other words, you personally benefit from someone using your code. It doesn't matter if it is a direct cash payment or not. That's the type of thing we have not permitted here, so I've removed the code from your post.

I am going to discuss this amongst the admins to make sure we're all in agreement on this point. It's fine to share the app info but not to give the code that gets you something in return. That just opens the door to everyone wanting to do the same thing and that can very quickly get out of hand.

Including my referral code along with the app info is part of playing the game. Do whatever you feel you need to do though. I understand.

I've messaged James and Brian so we can discuss this. If we decide to start allowing referral links, I'll make sure one of us lets you know so you can put it back into your post.

A lot of us, myself included, do things that include a referral system. Survey sites, for example, or Uber, or some credit cards, just to name a few. It isn't hard to imagine getting overwhelmed with those kinds of posts if we start letting everyone post referral links.

I just noticed that you removed the name of the app. Why did you do that? It's perfectly fine for you to share that info so that others can check it out.

Even though I earn rolls from video ads and surveys, referrals help me earn tickets faster. I'll put the app name back up once you all discuss everything. This close to Christmas I can't "afford" to lose referrals right now, lol.

To be really honest, that just rubs me the wrong way. It smacks of spam, especially considering that 8 of your 10 posts already reference the quick thinking app. There should be full disclosure and let the members decide if they want to use your referral or not. Sometimes there is a larger amount given to both if there is a referral, and sometimes you can get a larger bonus on your own. And to be even more honest, I recently contacted someone via private message regarding signing up for something that included a referral bonus for me and that person, but I did give them the info to sign up themselves without my referral, or if they needed a direct link to the site without my referral info, I would have given it to them. It is just that I remembered them stating something a while ago about wanting something and a new bonus popped up that would have benefitted them.

I don't have a problem with using a referral link 99.9% of the time, as long as I trust that link and the person providing it. If we do allow referral links, I think that the threshold to post one should be high just in case the link is a virus or just a person looking to earn money off of us.

The QuickThoughts app doesn't even have a referral system. It's just surveys for gift cards. If you use it on an android phone then you get Amazon gift cards and for iPhones you get iTunes cards.

As for the other app that I got free stuff from, I get a referral bonus of 30 rolls for inviting people to the game. That's all I get. It's an incentive to invite more people to the game. The game makes money from all the video ads and surveys that players do and in turn we get free stuff. I have a closet full of free gifts for my kids for Christmas thanks to the app. I'm on a tight budget so it's been a huge help.

You're entitled to your own opinion but you don't have to be rude. Have a great day.

Kimberly, I wanted to be sure to respond. We all agree that referral links are not allowed. So if you want to tell people about a website like Pinecone or an app like quickthoughts or verydice, that's fine, but you need to do so without posting a referral link or code for your own benefit.

                          Kimberly,

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for responding as well as raising the question. Steve, I, Amanda and BJ all discussed it and we were concerned about the long-term impact it could have on the forums, not necessarily that any one person would do something improper.

We have actually covered VeryDice before, some people love it!

So if you wanted to post a referral link, here is a good spot on reddit that might get you some sign ups.
