  • Gym Membership or Home Routine?

My husband, the health and exercise nut, has worked-out at home for years now, doing simple yet effective exercises such as push-ups, crunches, and skipping, along with a combined routine of boxing and martial arts.

With gym memberships running dear these days, in addition to filled to capacity workout rooms, DH not only enjoys the savings working-out at home affords him, but is also able to manage his workouts and time better when done in the comforts of our own home.

Curious as to what others do.

    Work out at home

What I have found is that, with a gym membership is that I seldom workout and I am wasting money. I enjoy walking in the evenings or playing tennis.

      Hi, Veronak.

We are also evening walkers, more so when weather permits or is more favourable, i.e., spring until early fall, but providing the walkways and roadways are bare and not glassed-over with ice, we try and walk 3-4 times a week (year-round).

I agree with your thoughts about wasting money and seldom putting memberships to good use. You really do need to be dedicated.

I currently do home workouts. Without a good reason for a gym membership, I just rather save the money and the hassle of going to a gym.

However, if a gym membership works better for you, then I say by all means, that's something that can be worth your money. Really, just whatever works best for you to keep you motivated and working out.

We had a somewhat related thread not long ago.

          Steve

          * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
          * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
          * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

My husbands thoughts exactly. It really does boil-down to what works best for each, but there really is something to be said for being able to incorporate a workout routine from the comforts of ones very own home.

In a lot of ways I believe working-out in ones own home adds to a more dedicated ritual, due to the fact that no travel-time or scheduling is needed.

Thank you so kindly, Steve! I just had a quick peek and there's some great reading to be had.

I workout from home. Whenever I got a GYM membership, I barely ever went twice tops. I find I can be more consistent if I work out at home as I can just put on my workout gear and just GO. Having to drive to the gym is extra effort and more chance of you changing your mind!

I have to get out of the house. I work at home, so whenever I have tried to do home work-outs, I always put it off and continued to work. Getting to the gym gets me away and I can actually put the effort and work in. I belong to a chain gym that is about $20/month and then I also have a membership to Orangetheory which I do about 3 days a week. I go to the other gym about 4-5 days as well and lift and run on the treadmill or row. Somedays I do both. I'll cut other areas of spending before I cut this. I know how much better I feel when I am in good shape and working out a lot.
