Interesting. My wife does either cash or gift cards.
My wife is known for making invitation pillows. I scan in the wedding or Bar/Bat Mitzvah invitation and print it on an iron-on transfer. She puts that on material and uses it as the centerpiece of a pillow. She chooses material that compliments the colors of the invitation and/or the theme of the party. People really like them and it's a unique keepsake to remember the event. She sells them for $50. When we are the ones invited to the event, she'll make a pillow as part of our gift. People have pretty much come to expect them from us.
Here's an example:

* Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
* Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
* There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.
I write lots of check. Just wrote 4 to girl scouts for 2 kids this month. And 2 checks for piano lessons to the teacher. And to the cleaners and now a check to the gutter cleaners, and yard guys and the renovators. So I write a lot checks. Tell me how to pay these people without checks and I'd do it in a heart beat. And I've messenged and venmo friends money but I highly doubt any of these people are willing to take that sort of payment.
I wonder if you could talk some of them into using Venmo? There are businesses using it now. They may just not be familiar with it. I would think it would work great for the piano teacher, he/she must have a lot of checks to deposit.
